What is Posture?

Macro or micro stresses in daily life can cause posture disorders. It can be shown as falling on the coccyx as macro stress, and staying in a sedentary position as micro stress. Wrong posture affects our skeletal system as well as internal organs and psychosocial life.

Each segment of our body is interconnected. For example, the shoulders of someone who has a long stoop down (increased thoracic kyphosis) rolls forward, the distance between the shoulder blades (scapula) increases, the head tilts forward and causes a decrease in the vital capacity of the person. Other segments of the body may also compensate in different ways.

Gradually, the stress on the neck, back, low back, hips and knees increases. Therefore, a holistic treatment approach is always important.

On the other hand, hump can cause a person to remain a little more introverted in his/her social environment, especially in the developmental age.

TYPES AND EVALUATION OF DISRUPTED POSTURE

These changes in our body are determined according to the deviations in the imaginary lines drawn from the side, front and back of our body and passing through certain points.

In the line drawn from the front, deviations in the toes, step inwardly-outwardly problems, the position of the knees, the height of the right-left hips, the position of the abdomen, the rib cage, the head and arms, and the differences in the waist grooves of the two sides are examined.

In the line drawn from the back, the alignment of the feet, knees, hips, shoulder blade and spine (presence of scoliosis) is checked.

In lateral (side) posture analysis, the arcs of the feet, that is, the condition of flat foot, the position of knees, pelvis levels, spine, shoulders and the head are examined. In particular, posture disorders of today’s technological age such as straightening of cervical spine (decrease in cervical lordosis), hump (increased thoracic kyphosis), straightening of the lumbar pit (reduction in lumbar lordosis) are evaluated in this way.

PREVENTING POSTURAL MISTAKES

The biggest mistake about posture in our daily life is staying in the same position for a long time. Especially desk workers, students preparing for exams…etc. Secondly, unconsciously repeating positions with wrong load distribution, such as constantly carrying a bag on the same side or wearing high or flat shoes, will lead to deterioration in our posture.

The human body is programmed to move. The fact that we have to work in a bad posture does not indicate the necessity of having such a posture. It should not be forgotten that the worst posture is the sedentary posture. The important thing is to stay active in your life at the right time intervals and in the right way.

If you have a poor posture and neck, low back, back and knee pains, you should consult a specialist physician and a specialist physiotherapist. Unconscious actions will make the situation worse.

We, as Fizyoform with our team of physiotherapists who are experts in their fields, create the necessary evaluation, treatment and exercise program in painful situations due to posture disorder approved by a physician. Always choose the right exercises in your life for a painless and healthy body.
